Essential Government advice for all Brits travelling to Spain

Essential Government advice for all Brits travelling to Spain

Double-vaccinated Britons can show their vaccination record to enter Spain, but new rules on printed certificates might cause some issues. In summary the new advice means Brits using a printed PDF vaccination status must make sure it dates from November 1 or it might not be accepted.

Every passenger including children under 12 should complete and sign an Online Health Control Form no more than 48 hours pre travel, either in paper or via the Spain Travel Health website or app. There might also be an additional health screening on arrival.

Facemask rules vary in different regions so holidaymakers should check before travelling. After returning from Spain double vaccinated passengers must take a lateral flow test from a Government approved provider on or before day two after arrival.

Thailand expands full tourism reopening to 46 countries

Thailand expands full tourism reopening to 46 countries

Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs released the list which includes Australia, China, Germany, UAE, the UK, US and Switzerland. Arrivals must come by air and show proof of vaccination, negative PCR test result, Covid-19 insurance cover and a confirmed hotel booking.

The country's sandbox system is still operating for vaccinated travellers from other countries while those not inoculated can enter subject to quarantine. The updated list is a big jump from the 10 initially announced by the Thai PM earlier this month.

Upon arrival, travellers take another Covid test and must book the first night in an approved hotel while awaiting the test results. Thailand plans to press ahead with reopening on a larger scale despite only having about 40% of the population fully vaccinated.

Foreign Office removes advice against travel to host of destinations

Foreign Office removes advice against travel to host of destinations

The FCDO has lifted its advice against ‘all but essential’ travel to 32 countries. The change means people will be able to travel to a larger number of destinations with greater ease, the body said.

However, there has been criticism that only a small number of Brits visit the countries in question. Benin, Kiribati, Vanuatu and Djibouti are among the destinations seeing restrictions lifted, for example.

The update comes as part of a simplified system for international travel which has seen the replacement of the traffic light system with a single red list, and reduced testing requirements for eligible fully vaccinated travellers.

Lab suspended over thousands of false negative PCR tests

A private testing lab at the centre of 43,000 potentially wrong  PCR results has been closed and thousands have been told to get retested.

NHS Test and Trace is investigating reports they received negative PCR results despite testing positive on a lateral flow.

The possible false negatives were taken between September 8 and October 12. Officials say it is 'an isolated incident attributed to one laboratory.' Most tests were conducted in Southwest England and Wales.

NHS Test and Trace is working to contact all people who could still have the virus.

MAG demands two-tier travel system from government

MAG demands two-tier travel system from government

Manchester Airport is calling for the government to introduce a simplified two-tier system for international travel, as fresh data revealed the UK aviation sector is slipping even further behind in its recovery.

It comes as MAG reported that its passenger numbers for August were 68 per cent down on the same month in 2019.

The company is the largest airport group in the UK and owns and operates Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands airports.

Figures also showed that Manchester Airport served roughly 1.5 million passengers between June and August this year.

ABTA calls on government to overhaul travel regulations

ABTA calls on government to overhaul travel regulations

ABTA is seeking to keep up pressure on the government to put the “right framework” in place to get people travelling again, kickstart a recovery in the travel industry and provide urgent financial support.

The moves come as officials prepare to release the latest strategic review of international travel requirements, which is due by the end of the month.

Using the findings from its latest member survey on the impact of the pandemic, ABTA has written to the chancellor and transport secretary to highlight the devastating impact the travel requirements have had on the ability of the industry to trade this summer.

Modest green list additions not enough, argues travel sector

Modest green list additions not enough, argues travel sector

The travel trade has welcomed a number of new additions to the UK green list unveiled by the government, but argued much more needs to be done to help the sector.

The Balearic Islands, Malta, the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira and Barbados are among the destinations currently considered safe by officials.

Transport secretary, Grant Shapps, his department was working on plans to allow quarantine-free travel from amber list countries for people who were fully vaccinated.

However, no date was given for the roll-out of such a policy.

WTTC cautions against re-imposing quarantine on British travellers

WTTC cautions against re-imposing quarantine on British travellers

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has argued there is no need reimpose quarantines on British travellers arriving in the EU.

The comments come in response to remarks from German chancellor, Angela Merkel, who recently mooted the idea in response to the spread of the Delta Covid-19 variant.

The strain is now dominant in the UK, but is still growing in the EU.

In response to the remarks,

Virginia Messina, WTTC senior vice president, said: “WTTC is very concerned about reversing quarantine measures and would urge against EU states reimposing them on arriving British holidaymakers.

Madeira welcomes UK green list inclusion

Madeira has welcomed its addition to the safe travel list, calling the decision “mutually beneficial” to both the UK and local travel industry.

The Covid-19 situation in Madeira is under control, officials said.

In the past month here has been a 73 per cent decrease in active cases and there are only 72 active cases (20 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days, versus 97 cases per 100,000 in the UK), which remains one of the lowest rates in Europe.

Porto Santo does not have any active cases at the moment.

There are no registered cases of the Delta variant in the destination.
